Starting Tuesday/Wednesday October 27/28, our phonics skill for spelling words will be short i and long i (with the magic e).  Due to Halloween and Nov 2, our spelling test will be on Friday November 6.

Reading:  Our genre is narrative nonfiction.  We will be reading selections on how to care for animals.   We will be determining the  main idea of each selection, and we will also be learning to use the text features of photos and captions to gain additional information.

Sight Words:  By the end of the week your child should be able read these quickly and easily.  Please post this letter in a handy spot (on the fridge, etc.) and have your child practice reading through these words a couple of times each day.

Second Grade News

October 5-October 15

Spelling:  We will be practicing words with two letter blends. Since we practice the words for seven school days, this test will be on Thursday, October 15.

Reading:  We will be reading fictions stories about "how can a pet be an important friend?"  Our comprehension skill is identifying the character, setting, and important events.  As you read at home with your child, please take a few minutes to discuss these aspects of fiction.

Math: We are finishing up Unit 1. Mrs. V's class took their test on Monday. Mrs. Wimmler, Mrs. Taylor, and Mrs. Rozeveld's classes will be taking their test sometime this week.  We will be moving on to Unit 2: grouping by 10, addition, doubles and more. BE LOOKING for homelinks this week.
