Reading: Our genre is realistic fiction.  Stories of this type sound as if they could happen in real life and the characters could be real people.  Our comprehension skill is character (who is the story about), setting (where does the story take place), and plot (beginning, middle, and end).  As you read with your child, please take a few minutes to discuss these elements of a story.

Second Grade News
October 5-October 15

Spelling:  We will be practicing words with two letter blends. Since we practice the words for seven school days, this test will be on Thursday, October 15.

Reading:  We will be reading fictions stories about "how can a pet be an important friend?"  Our comprehension skill is identifying the character, setting, and important events.  As you read at home with your child, please take a few minutes to discuss these aspects of fiction.

Math: We are finishing up Unit 1. Mrs. V's class took their test on Monday. Mrs. Wimmler, Mrs. Taylor, and Mrs. Rozeveld's classes will be taking their test sometime this week.  We will be moving on to Unit 2: grouping by 10, addition, doubles and more. BE LOOKING for homelinks this week.

Physical Education:  Your child ran the 1 mile run in PE this week.  The goal is to get under 10 minutes.  They will run this again in the spring.  The goal in the spring is to try and get 1 minute faster than the fall.
